Pre-Columbian Mayan Olla Pot Classic Period

Description

Very fine Mayan terracotta pot with polychrome painted decoration. Vessel has twin loop handles and vibrant colours. Decorated with an upper band of profile Mayan heads and a lower band of monkeys.

Provenance – Ex Arte  Primitivo, Ex Estate of Howard Handler New York acquired in 1960s

Origin

Mayan Empire. Southern Mexico, Guatemala and Belize. Circa 500 to 800 AD

Measurements

Height 18cm width 18cm at widest point. Opening at top 11.5cm

Condition

Very good ancient condition. Mineral deposits inside vessel as per its age. Old collectors tag on bottom
